A Brighter Future for Unicoi County, TN Animals
Brighter Tails is building a brighter future for animals and the people who care for them in Unicoi County, Tennessee, a community still recovering from the impacts of Hurricane Helene. Through collaboration with caregivers, rescues, and local partners, Brighter Tails is developing programs that support humane community cat management, temporary foster care, and other animal welfare needs as they arise. See some of our positive impacts below!

One of the most urgent animal welfare needs in Unicoi County is the management of community cat colonies. Brighter Tails works with local caregivers to coordinate Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts, a humane and proven method for stabilizing outdoor cat populations. To support this work, Brighter Tails is piloting TallyKat™, a colony tracking platform that allows community to report colony locations and details, pin them

securely on a private map, and estimate population needs. Our TNR volunteers follow up to assess each location in TallyKat, allowing us to closely monitor colony risks and improvements. TallyKats predictive analytics helps us target TNR efforts with the most impact.
