In Development! Data-Driven Tool for Community Cat Care
TallyKat™ is a data-driven platform being developed by Brighter Tails to help communities better understand and manage community cat populations. Through tools for colony tracking, TNR coordination, and shared data insights, TallyKat aims to support caregivers and organizations working to humanely care for outdoor cats.
TallyKat™ is currently in development.
Why TallyKat
Community cat programs often rely on scattered notes, spreadsheets, or individual knowledge about colony locations and populations. This makes it difficult for organizations and caregivers to coordinate efforts, track progress, or understand the true scope of community cat populations.
TallyKat is designed to bring these efforts together by providing a shared system for tracking colonies, monitoring population trends, and using predictive analysis for targeted TNR efforts. TallyKat's colony reporting system also creates a Google map of pinned locations for participating organizations to easily see where colonies overlap, which colonies have pregnant cats, small kittens, or injured cats, allowing for prioritized TNR efforts.

Colony locations remain private within the platform to protect caregivers and ensure the safety of community cats.
How TallyKat Helps

Why Brighter Tails Created TallyKat
Many community cat programs rely on scattered notes, spreadsheets, or individual knowledge about colony locations. This makes it difficult for organizations and caregivers to coordinate efforts or measure the impact of their work.
TallyKat was created to help bring these efforts together by providing a shared system for tracking colonies, understanding population trends, and supporting collaboration between caregivers, veterinarians, and TNR organizations.
We implemented TallyKat as a pilot in Unicoi County, Tennessee after it was devastated by Hurricane Helene, and cat colonies needed help. TallyKat was applauded by Humane World and Team Shelter USA, LLC who provided a generous donation for local TNR. Brighter Tails was then formed and TallyKat improved to make its national debut soon!
TallyKat Community Resource Programs
While TallyKat supports TNR organizations with better information and collaboration tools, a portion of TallyKat subscription revenue will help support Community Resource Programs for participating TNR organizations. TNR organizations can use their Community Resource Funds for supplies, spay/neuter, educational outreach and other initiatives that strengthen local TNR efforts.
This approach helps ensure that resources generated through the platform directly support the communities and organizations working on the front lines of humane cat care.
Currently in Development
TallyKat is currently under development as part of Brighter Tails’ broader effort to support humane community cat management. Our pilot program is working well in Unicoi County, Tennessee and we'll be ready to roll out to all states soon!
As the platform evolves, Brighter Tails plans to collaborate with TNR organizations to ensure the system meets the real-world needs of those working to care for community cats.
