Brighter Tails focuses on Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and data-driven strategy to reduce outdoor cat populations humanely. Your donation directly funds spay/neuter, food, and medical care for community cats right in Unicoi County, TN.

Erwin Cat Village Colony

A well-known downtown colony supported by local businesses, with many cats already TNR’d. Continued care is needed as new cats still appear.

A rural colony cared for by multiple caregivers. Ongoing TNR is needed as new cats continue to appear, and the barn they lived in was recently demolished.

Purr Patch

After losing a litter, one mom and her newest babies were saved, but several cats remain, and the colony is growing beyond what one person can manage. Support helps us step in with TNR and bring stability.

Dusty Trail Colony

Rural colony that appears healthy but keep reproducing and recently lost the barn they used as shelter (was torn down) plus the trailer they lived under (removed) so are exposed to the elements. Need TNR and shelter.

Sneaky Beans Colony

New kittens show up almost every month, and the colony has spread across garages, vehicles, and nearby buildings. It’s grown beyond count and without intervention, it will only continue to expand.

Tumble Tail Colony

Includes a friendly adult male and two social kittens, along with several more cats that remain scared. One cat has a visible leg deformity. The population continues to grow in the area, with a caregiver doing their best to keep up.

Porch Light Colony

A small but growing colony, with a pregnant female, a tiny kitten, and a friendly male. Others remain wary. Without intervention, more kittens are on the way. Let's stabilize this colony before it's outta control!

Poppy Patch Colony

A large colony with cats of all ages. A young kitten has already appeared, and several females are currently pregnant or in heat. One caregiver is feeding them daily, but the population continues to expand.

We’ve already identified 38 colonies with an estimated 548 cats , and that’s just the beginning.
Early analytics suggest there may be 2,000+ community cats across Unicoi County. What we’re seeing so far is only a fraction of the full picture.
